Home > Exploring Ilfracombe and North Devon > Lundy Island
Lundy lies off the coast of North Devon, where the Atlantic ocean meets the Bristol Channel with nothing between it and America. Rising 400 feet out of the sea this outcrop of granite is about three and a half miles long and its inhabitants include some of Devon's most varied wildlife.
Whether you are looking for birds or basking sharks; Soay sheep or seals; or even Lundy cabbages or corals then Lundy is the place to come, and your wildlife experience begins the moment you board the boat.
Lundy's flora and fauna is so rich and diverse that most of the Island is a Site of Special Interest and the seas surrounding it are England's only statutory Marine Nature Reserve.
There are regular sailings from Ilfracombe harbour between April to Otober on the supply vessel M.S. Oldenburg. Check out the timetable for sailings and contact the Ilfracombe Tourist Information Centre to book your tickets, tel no: 01271 863001.
