We were very excited when it was announced that Ilfracombe was going to be one of the destinations that Nowhereisland was going to come to, especially as it was being timed to arrive during our Sea Ilfracombe Maritime Festival in September.

So, on the morning of Saturday 1st September, it was great to wake up, look out of the window and see a tug boat towing the Island just off Ilfracombe Quay. We could see crowds gathering and hear the familiar ring of the Town Criers bell as he announced it's arrival.

As we walked through the harbour there was such a buzz with huge crowds of people enjoying the Maritime Festival, food trails and listening to the sea shanties at the end of the pier head.

We got our first glimpse of the Embassy where people were queuing up to become Citizens of Nowhereisland and to hear all the history behind Alex Hartley's project for the London 2012 Olympiad which was funded by the Arts Council England, to bring the island from the High Arctic region of Svalbard to the South West of England and Ilfracombe.

It was all very interesting and I have now received my certificate to say that I am a Citizen.
